West Coast Fever Goal Shooter Jhaniele Fowler was awarded her fourth-consecutive club MVP Award after taking out the Stacey Marinkovich Medal at the awards dinner on Monday, July 4.
After a season in which she broke the League’s goal scoring record, raising the bar she previously set in 2020 from 795 to 804, Fowler polled votes in 13 of 14 rounds including a maximum 6 votes on three occasions to finish with 58.
She was followed on the leader board by Alice Teague-Neeld with 37 votes and Courtney Bruce with 36 votes.
Sunday Aryang and Chelsea Pitman tied in fourth place with 10 votes each, followed by Stacey Francis-Bayman with 6 votes, Sasha Glasgow and Verity Simmons with 4, and Jess Anstiss with 3 votes.
Votes were awarded by Head Coach Dan Ryan and Assistant Coach Belinda Reynolds on a 3,2,1 basis at the conclusion of each game during the home and away season.
Fowler also received the coveted Player’s Player Award, voted on by her teammates, for the fifth consecutive season.
Alice Teague-Neeld was presented with the Coach’s Award, Sasha Glasgow received the People’s Choice Award, voted on by West Coast Fever fans and members, and Team Manager Suzanne Lennon was awarded Club Person of the Year.
A special announcement was also made on the night by Stacey Francis-Bayman, who revealed that she will be departing West Coast Fever and retiring from netball after the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Francis-Bayman notched up her 100th National League Game in West Coast Fever’s Round 14 win over the Adelaide Thunderbirds this season after a sensational career that included 92 Suncorp Super Netball games for Fever since joining the club in 2017.
She received a standing ovation from her teammates, coaches and West Coast Fever staff and supporters at Monday night’s event in a moving display that reflected her popularity and impact at the club.
