West Coast Fever Futures hit the court at the Gold Netball Centre on Saturday, January 29 under the watchful eyes of newly appointed head coaches Karly Guadagnin and Sam Lee.
The session included fitness testing and training for squad members, as they vie for selection for the Western Australian 17/U & 19/U State Teams.
Karly Guadagnin, who is overseeing the 19s squad, is a High Performance Accredited Coach who has experience at a variety of levels, including the Australian Netball League, State and WA Netball League.
She is the current ECU Souwest Jets Coach in the GIG WANL competition and as a player, was a Western Australian Underage Representative and Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) athlete.
She said this year’s group of Futures 19s all displayed exciting talent and that she looked forward to working with them throughout the program.
“It was great to get back on court, after the Christmas break to officially start our Nationals campaign. We hit the court running with a short, sharp skills session to see where we were all at. We are now looking forward to seeing the development of both team and individuals throughout the next three months.”
Sam Lee is heading up the Futures 17s program, where she will impart her netball knowledge and experience as a former Perth Orioles captain and Australian 21U captain.
She said the 17s athletes committed to the program with enthusiasm on Saturday, with many receiving their first opportunity to experience a high-performance environment.
“First session back the girls were up to the challenge for the start of our campaign with all cylinders firing. Over the next 10 weeks we will be looking to turn our talented young athletes into an amazing close knit team ready to take on the rest of Australia,” she said.
The program continues until September and during this time selected athletes will participate in the 17/U & 19/U National Netball Championships in Hobart in April.
