As restrictions continue to lift in WA (Western Australia) and little slices of my pre-pandemic life begin to remerge, I wouldn’t have though that much could top the news on May 29, that from June 6, I will be able to visit my favourite person/place in Perth… my eyebrow technician! Prior to returning to Perth in February after international duties I made several jokes that she was the main reason that I was coming back (along with my nail technician), little did I know that we would only have one brief reunion before we would again be kept apart.
In a continued turn of positive events, it was announced on Sunday (May 31) that the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season will be returning on August 1. There will be a full 60-match home and away season, that will include a finals series.
There are still plenty of decisions to be made before the commencement of the 2020 season and many unknowns: what are the fixtures, when will the state borders open, what are the travel arrangements, will we have spectators at some point? Just to name a few.
The list is pretty endless, especially when you are a detail-oriented and full of questions (nosey) person like me. However, whilst there is still a lot of information lacking, what we do know is that we are so fortunate to have our league commencing in its intended format. Only last week the Superleague competition in the UK got cancelled completely, and although the ANZ Premiership in New Zealand is set to resume later on this month, it is with games being played at one central location in a 10-week season with fixtures on Friday through to Monday each week.
Whilst there will still be some restrictions in place for everyone’s health and safety, having been away from the team training environment since March 23rd it will be a welcome return to my other Perth home and some ‘normality’ amongst what continues to be a little bit of chaos in my world.
We were in a fantastic place prior to the break. So, the next challenge for us as a group is how quickly we can pick back up where we left off, recement the off-court and on-court relationships and continue on our quest to our second SSN Finals Series and first premiership!
I had some clear goals for myself as well as ambitions for the team coming into the 2020 season. Although many compromises have needed to be made over the past 10 weeks, I remain resolute on doing everything I can to achieve them!
