Hey Fever fans! Ready for the next chapter of my War and Peace blog?? WAIT… just kidding, stay with me. Things will be much more succinct from now on (we listened to the letters of complaint) ;)
Last week was a little bit brutal with training ramping up several gears as we are entering a heavy loading period. We started the week off with fitness testing and pretty much went up in intensity from there. Who knew that there was another level after maximal?!?
On this topic I have to give Inga (Ingrid Colyer) a massive shout out as she absolutely smashed it. Not only was she the fittest member of the team that tested on the day, she also recorded the fastest speed time AND got the highest vertical jump.
Now I have to be honest, my athlete ego has been a little bit bruised here. One of my strengths is definitely my standing jump (which is going to be so crucial in this league as a vertically challenged defender) and usually I sit top of testing scores in any team that I am in. However, I have the utmost respect for our little pocket rocket and will take the motivation to push myself to new heights… literally!
Before Christmas I went to a Bachata class and a Salsa class with my new housemate as he takes lessons. I have never done any kind of organised dance before, unless you count throwing out a Macarena at a party, and found that I really enjoyed the salsa class.
I enrolled into a 6-week course and had my first lesson last week. With the basics well and truly nailed I am looking forward to seeing how I progress over the coming weeks and maybe even filming the result of one of my classes for you all to critique. If I don’t get invited to appear on Dancing with the Stars as a result of this at the very least, I will have some pretty sharp footwork to flash on the netball court!
Until next week,
