West Coast Fever flew to the Sunshine Coast last week to put the last ten weeks of training to the test.
Undergoing two matches against Sunshine Coast Lightning, Fever had the opportunity to see the transition of those areas the Club has focused on in the training environment play out in a pressured performance environment, ahead of the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season.
The first game, replicating an SSN match, saw Fever and Lightning neck and neck for the first half of the game, with Fever breaking the game open in the second half claiming a five-goal win.
The second match saw both teams take to the court in an unofficial closed game, consisting of two 15-minute quarters and three ten-minute quarters. This match gave both sides the opportunity to test out different combinations and set plays. Lightning secured the win with a 3-goal lead, 58-55.
West Coast Fever Head Coach, Stacey Marinkovich said the pre-season matches are crucial before heading into the 2020 season.
“It was great to secure the win in the match replicating Suncorp Super Netball standards, but it was more how we played the game that I was interested in. The matches showed a transfer and application of our game plan and I was really pleased to see our brand of netball shine through,” said Marinkovich.
“The closed game again provided us with valuable learnings around our combinations and gave us a great understanding of focus areas for the team. Our players attacked each game and you can certainly see the confidence and execution grow through the experiences.”
West Coast Fever will head to Kalgoorlie next weekend taking on Giants Netball in two pre-season matches on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 March at the Goldfields Oasis Recreation Centre. Click here for more information.
