West Coast Fever wing defence Jess Anstiss is pushing for a position in the twelve that will represent Australia in the upcoming Constellation Cup test series.
Anstiss was named amongst the Origin Diamonds squad late last year after a strong season at West Coast Fever, where she was instrumental to the team securing a spot in the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final.
No stranger to a call from the Origin Diamonds Head Coach, this is Anstiss’ second call-up to join the Origin Diamonds squad.
“It’s always been a dream to play at the top and represent Australia,” said Anstiss.
“When I got selected the first time, I was obviously pretty overwhelmed, I think I was too excited going into camps, so the fact that I get the opportunity to be in the squad again and potentially represent Australia is amazing.”
Eager to put on her best performance at the upcoming Origin Diamonds Camp next month, Anstiss worked hard over the break.
“I trained practically all through Christmas,” said Anstiss.
“I had a bit of a break straight after the Hub, but pretty much back into it over the November-December period.”
Being with West Coast Fever for three seasons now, Anstiss has great rapport with the Club and her teammates and is excited for the opportunity to replicate this at the top level.
“It’s definitely different, training and playing with a different squad and to be honest, sometimes daunting. These are players I have looked up to and all of a sudden you’re playing with them and competing against them for a spot on the team,” said Anstiss.
“Obviously connections are important both on and off the court, but I think travelling to New Zealand together and being in a confined space, it won’t be long before we all get to know one another pretty well.”
Anstiss was among three West Coast Fever players named in the 2021 Origin Diamonds Squad alongside Courtney Bruce and Verity Charles.
