West Coast Fever goal shooter Jhaniele Fowler gives us an insight into how the support of her mum, Dorothy, has given her the confidence to tackle the toughest of netball challenges.
Being the top goal scorer in 2019 Suncorp Super Netball, Fowler has an undeniable presence on game days. Dominating on the court started early in her Jamaican primary school days, with her love for the sport skyrocketing from there.
Jhaniele said her Mum ensured she was in school getting an education every day.
“My mum always ensured that I was in school every day, and that’s where I started playing netball. I guess my passion for the sport started there and I have my mum to thank for that.”
Fowler admits that she considered retiring from netball before coming over to West Coast Fever two years ago. She credits her mum’s support for the reason she did not give up on her dreams.
“My mum means the world to me, she has always been a major support for me in everything I do. I credit my mum for the person I am, she is a very important part of my life,” Fowler said.
Fowler said that her mum was always working hard to make her and her brothers’ life better, even leaving when Jhaniele was 12 to find work in America.
“She left to find a better life for us, I held the fort down whilst she was gone. This experience really helped me grow and mature as a person.”
“My mum is my hero and I don’t know what I would do without her,” Fowler said.
