West Coast Fever claimed the club’s maiden National League Premiership with a spectacular win in front of a record crowd at RAC Arena in the 2022 Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final on Sunday, July 3.
Fever won every quarter and led by as much as 14 goals, with every player on the court performing at the highest standard when it mattered most to take down minor premiers Melbourne Vixens in the season decider.
Quarter By Quarter
1st – WCF 18 | VIX 14
Vixens scored first off the opening centre pass and led early before sensational defence from Courtney Bruce created a turnover to see Fever hit the front and move ahead by 3 goals. The Vixens reduced the margin to one entering the power five before Glasgow hit her first Suncorp Super Shot attempt and then sunk another to extend Fever’s advantage to 4 at quarter time.
2nd – WCF 17 | VIX 15
The teams traded goals to start the second term before the Vixens had a run to reduce the margin to 1 goal. However Fever responded and reinstated a 5-goal lead at the midway point of the quarter, seeing the Vixens take a timeout. Fever edged ahead to a 35-29 lead at half time, with Fowler taking her individual total to 26 goals and Glasgow increasing hers to 6, including 3 Super Shots.
3rd – WCF 19 | VIX 16
Fever maintained their 6-goal lead through to the halfway mark of the third quarter before another Glasgow Super Shot as the power five commenced increased the margin to 8. Intense defence forced a Vixens held ball and helped Fever go up by 11 before a Vixens Super Shot saw the scoreboard read 54-45 at the final break.
4th – WCF 16 | VIX 14
Fever increased their lead to 12 as the fourth quarter commenced and maintained that buffer until the middle of the term when Stacey Francis-Bayman entered the game to roar from the Green Army. Fever still led by 12 entering the power five and finished the job, sealing the win in front of a record netball crowd at RAC Arena.
