West Coast Fever has signed talented players Ruth Aryang, Sloan Burton and Zoe Cransberg as members of its 2022 Suncorp Super Netball extended squad.
Aryang and Cransberg are new additions, while Burton continues her involvement with Fever after being a member of the extended squad in 2021.
West Coast Fever has also been in discussions with 2021 extended squad member Donnell Wallam about returning in 2022, however she has informed the club that she will be taking up an opportunity at another professional netball franchise.
West Coast Fever will continue assessing options before signing a fourth member of the extended squad, to train with the 10 contracted players throughout the 2022 SSN season.
Coach Dan Ryan said Aryang, Burton and Cransberg were excellent additions to the club’s training environment and was excited to work with each of them in 2022.
“I’m looking forward to seeing them continue to develop as individuals, further their netball careers and contribute to the overall success of the club,” Ryan said.
“They are all very talented players and have bright futures ahead of them.”
Ryan also wished Wallam, who played for Leeds Rhinos when he coached the club in the United Kingdom’s 2021 Vitality Netball Superleague, the very best with her netball future.
“Donnell is such an exciting talent and I wish her every success, both personally and on behalf of West Coast Fever. This opportunity for her has come up pretty late in the piece, but we are very supportive of her ambition to try to take the next steps in her career. We look forward to seeing her progress and of course welcoming her back to WA for the Australian Netball Championships later in the year,” Ryan said.
“I’m looking forward to finalising the fourth player in our extended squad as soon as possible, and working with Ruth, Sloan and Zoe throughout the season.”
Aryang, who is the 18-year-old sister of current Fever player Sunday Aryang, won the Medal for the fairest and best player in the Gold Industry Group Western Australia Netball League in 2021 after starring at Goal Defence for ECU Souwest Jets.
She polled votes in eight of the 14 rounds to finish with a total of 18 and will be an exciting addition to the defensive end in the West Coast Fever squad.
Burton, 20, is a product of the WA talent pathway, having been part of West Coast Fever’s academy, and playing an integral role as a shooter in Curtin Hamersley Comets’ rise to the 2020 GIG WANL Grand Final.
She is the daughter of inaugural Perth Oriole Jules Burton (nee Sloan) and former Fremantle and North Melbourne AFL ruckman Matthew Burton.
Cransberg, 22, is a former Victorian Fury state team member, whose twin sister Jordan is a training partner with the Melbourne Vixens and father Peter played 79 VFL/AFL games for Essendon.
The versatile midcourter is a fierce competitor and also driven off the netball court, having completed a Bachelor of Science degree and now furthering her studies at the University of Western Australia.
