West Coast Fever Netball Club has today announced a number of structural changes to support its ongoing sustainability through one of WA’s most challenging periods in history.
Effective from Monday, all high performance and coaching staff will see their commitments with the club reduced, with a number of these staff being stood down. A range of services will be established to support their health and wellbeing during this period through to 1st June, 2020.
In addition to these changes, all West Coast Fever athletes will take a 70% salary reduction, as announced earlier today by the Super Netball League.
West Coast Fever Managing Director Simon Taylor said that, whilst the changes will be incredibly difficult in the short term, they will ensure the Club is in the strongest position possible to take to the court when the season returns later this year.
“Without a doubt, this has been the most challenging period in our Club’s history,” Mr Taylor said.
“Our Club’s purpose is to inspire and make you proud – it has never been harder to deliver on this commitment than it has been today, but we hope that our Fever Family are proud of our fight and the tough decisions we are making to ensure we are here for the long run,” he said.
The staffing changes have been put in place until the 1st June to align with the League’s further review and development of a new competition window in the back half of the year.
“These changes have been made in the interests of protecting the future of Western Australia’s leading women’s sporting club,” Mr Taylor said.
“Netball is a family and we want to be here for our fans and our members when they will need us the most, as we all come out of this crisis later this year.”
The Club will continue to operate with all communication channels and member services remaining active over the coming months to ensure fans and members remain connected to the Club and to its partners and sponsors.
“I want to thank our staff and players for their understanding, support and ongoing contribution through this difficult period, as well as our partners that continue to stand by our Club as we prepare to bounce back later in the year.”
“I urge our fans and supporters to get behind Fever, to follow us and our players on social media, buy merchandise and Fever memberships, and stick with us as we prepare for our season ahead.”
