Tasha Richards appointed Western Sting Head Coach

The Western Sting has finalised its coaching panel and squad ahead of the 2020 Australian Netball League Season.

Tasha Richards has been appointed Head Coach of the Sting, alongside Assistant Coach Tracey Swami.

Richards brings an impressive resume to the new role – having served as the Assistant Coach of West Coast Fever between 2016-2017, an ANL Assistant Coach from 2013-2016 and a State 19/U Coach from 2013-2015. Richards was most recently at the helm of the Southside Demons in 2019.

As a player, Richards represented the Perth Orioles (2001, 2002, 2007) and West Coast Fever (2008).

In 2020, Richards commenced a newly appointed role as West Coast Fever Pathways Manager. She will play an important role in aligning the development pathways (State U17 and U19 teams, Fever in Time, Fever Academy, Western Sting) with the strategic objectives of West Coast Fever.

Swami was the WA State Team Assistant Coach between 2005-2007 and returned to Perth in 2019, having lived in Port Headland for the last 11 years. She was the North West Champs Team Head Coach for five years (2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2016).

She represented West Coast Fever as a player in 2008 and was a member of the Perth Orioles for five seasons. She played for the Hamersley Curtin Comets in the West Australian Netball League last season.

Richards and Swami have a long-playing history together - they competed in State 17s together in 1998 and continued to play alongside each other in the early 2000s –at WAIS and State League level, West Coast Fever and the Perth Orioles.

The Western Sting group will commence training on Wednesday, 5 February with the final team to be selected on Wednesday, 26 February.
