The Suncorp Super Netball official pre-season tournament, the Suncorp Team Girls Cup, will return for a second year, bringing together all eight teams in Sydney for three days of action from 27-29 March.
The newly-renovated Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney will host the 2020 Suncorp Team Girls Cup, where the world’s best netballers will come together to battle it out before the official season kicks off in May.
The tournament will see all eight Suncorp Super Netball teams take to the court across the three days in a round-robin style format, eventually leading to a grand final between the two highest ranked teams in each pool on the final day. A full fixture of the tournament will be released in the coming weeks.
Suncorp Super Netball Chief Executive Chris Symington is excited to once again see the Suncorp Team Girls Cup come to life and to welcome the fans back to see their favourite players in action.
“The inaugural Suncorp Team Girls Cup was a huge success in 2019 and the Suncorp Super Netball league is excited to once again see all eight teams join forces and put on a show for the fans in what I’m sure will be another fantastic tournament,” he said.
Suncorp Executive General Manager, Brand and Marketing, Mim Haysom says Suncorp is once again pleased to be part of the Suncorp Team Girls Cup.
“This is Suncorp’s fourth year of our partnership with Netball Australia and we are thrilled to kick off 2020 with what promises to be another nail-biting pre-season competition at the Suncorp Team Girls Cup,” she said.
“We’re proud to support a league of athletes who continually perform at the highest levels, while inspiring younger generations to build their confidence and self-esteem through sport.”
With the tournament set to take place in Sydney for the first time, Netball NSW CEO Carolyn Campbell is delighted to be hosting the Suncorp Team Girls Cup in 2020.
“We cannot wait to welcome the Suncorp Team Girls Cup to the new home of the NSW Swifts and GIANTS Netball at Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney Olympic Park,” she said.
“Last year’s pre-season event in Brisbane was a huge success and we are delighted to have a new venue of our own for 2020 and beyond.
“A huge amount of work has been done with our neighbours at Tennis NSW and the NSW Government to make this project happen and I can’t wait to see it in full netball mode.”
The Suncorp Team Girls Cup will also raise funds for bushfire relief as part of Netball Australia’s bushfire relief initiative. More detail on this fundraising activity will be announced closer to the event.
The 2020 Suncorp Team Girls Cup Grand Final will be broadcast live on Channel 9. More information on ticketing and broadcast will be available in the coming weeks.
