West Coast Fever congratulate Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich’s appointment as the Head Coach of the Origin Australian Diamonds.
Marinkovich first joined the Perth Orioles from Queensland from 2002-2007 as a player, then continued with Fever in their inaugural year in 2008, captaining them for two seasons before retiring in 2009.
She is the first person to have played in and coached in a National League club.
In 2010, Marinkovich returned to the Club as an assistant coach to Norma Plummer, and at the end of 2014, she was announced as the Head Coach for Fever for the 2015 season and has remained in the role since.
This appointment highlights the achievements Marinkovich has made in her coaching career, including taking Fever to their first finals appearance in 2015 and inaugural grand final in 2018.
“I’m honoured to be given this opportunity and am looking forward to the challenge of leading the Origin Australian Diamonds. I would like thank Netball Australia and the Board for their support of my vision for the Diamonds.” Marinkovich said.
“I am acutely aware of the expectations, the history and responsibility of taking on such a position and I am very much looking forward to growing the success of the Diamonds program.”
“I would also like to make special mention of the West Coast Fever Netball Club and the Netball WA community for their support. The Board, the staff, the players, the Members and the fans, have been instrumental in not only supporting, but challenging and growing our vision and drive for success.”
“My coaching philosophy has always been to evolve my athletes by embedding a collaborative purpose, generate principles and standards that enable players, support staff, stakeholders and the wider netball community to thrive and advance towards sustained success.”
West Coast Fever Managing Director Simon Taylor congratulated Marinkovich on the new role.
“This is great news for Stacey and is representative of her hard work and commitment to coaching.” Mr Taylor said.
“Stacey has a great track record of unearthing talent and getting the most out of her players and I have no doubt this will continue in her role as Diamonds Head Coach.”
Marinkovich will see out her contract with Fever and remain as Head Coach until the end of 2021.
Fever take on Sunshine Coast Lightning tomorrow at 1.30pm AWST at Nissan Arena on Telstra TV or the Netball Live App.
