Layton joined the Club in 2026, following time as a technical coach with the Melbourne Vixens and is also currently an Assistant Coach with the English Roses.
She has become a beloved figure of the Club in her year so far, known for her sideline support, incredible defensive knowledge and infectious laugh.
West Coast Fever General Manager – Performance and Pathway Sara Francis Bayman said maintaining continuity within the coaching team is incredibly important, and securing Layton’s re-signing is a fantastic outcome for the Club.
“Sharni brings a wealth of defensive knowledge, great attention to detail and a genuine passion for helping our athletes improve,” Francis-Bayman said.
“Alongside her coaching expertise, Sharni has a big personality that brings energy, positivity and connection to our environment every day,
“We’ve already seen the positive impact she’s had on the group, and I’m confident her influence will continue to be a key factor in our performance moving forward.”
On returning for the West for the 2027 Super Netball Season, Layton said she is looking forward to consolidating her coaching partnership with Head Coach Dan Ryan, as well as continuing to improve and expand her own skill set.
“In 2026, I loved being able to coach alongside and learn from 100-plus games, premiership coach, Dan Ryan,” she said.
“Dan embraces my 'Sharni energy’ and encourages everyone to be themselves in the West Coast Fever environment, which brings the best out of all of us and being a part of a holistic program is very important to me.”
Another key reason for returning to the West for Layton is the opportunity as an Assistant Coach to be able to work with the world class defensive end.
“As a defensive specialist, it is an absolute dream to be able to coach stalwarts like Sunday, Fran, Kadie-Ann and exciting talent such as Ruth and Zoe. All whom continue to grow in leaps and bounds on their own individual journey but also have a hunger success and strong commitment to improving as a unit year-on-year,” she said.
“Netball has given me so much, I never thought I would have the opportunities that I have had as a player and now coach. To be able to fulfil this dream in helping others be their best on the best netball stage in the world is a gift, and I wouldn’t want to be wearing any colour other than green.
