The Nominated Athlete Upgrade (11th player) is a new initiative which allows clubs to sign an additional athlete who can be brought into the match day squad for tactical purposes throughout the season, not just in the case of injury or illness to a contracted athlete.
Aryang has made a successful comeback this pre-season from a knee reconstruction. She has impressed in a number of games throughout the Fever’s pre-season campaign including at the Team Girls Cup as well as for the Fremantle Sharks in the Gold Industry Group WA Netball League.
The elevation of Ruth sees her join older sister and Origin Australian Diamond Sunday as part of Fever’s squad.
Head Coach Dan Ryan said: “Ruth has had an outstanding pre-season campaign and her form and recent performances really warrant her elevation as our 11th player.
“It’s been a long and challenging road back from injury for her but seeing her back out on court thriving again is just awesome.
“She is a rare talent with a very bright future and she’ll add so much depth and versatility to our new look defence end this season.”
Aryang said: “I feel super privileged to be given this opportunity by West Coast Fever to be our 11th player and I cannot wait to hopefully step onto an SSN court this season for Fever.
“Our pre-season has been an amazing experience, we’ve all put in a lot of hard work and it’s exciting that Round One is finally here.
“I am also really looking forward to the chance to get back out of the court next to my sister Sunday which I really enjoyed and cherish during Team Girls Cup.”
Fever travel to Sydney this weekend to take on the Giants at Ken Rosewell Arena on Saturday 13 April, centre pass 3pm WST.
