The Situation
West Coast Fever and the Giants remain the only unbeaten teams after the first four rounds of the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball season.
Fever have defeated the other top four teams from 2020 but have been challenged on each occasion, fighting back from early deficits to secure impressive wins.
Last week, they recovered from a slow start to the Thunderbirds in Adelaide and have been taking steps throughout the week to ensure they are ready to go from the outset against the ladder-leading Giants.
Jess Anstiss, who made the Round 4 Nissan Net Points Team of the Week with 16 assists from 25 feeds after moving from Wing Defence to Centre, said she was looking forward to the contest.
“We are both undefeated coming into this game, so I think everyone is talking about it a fair bit,” she said.
“It will be a good match up to see where we are at.
“There’s no area of the court that we can just focus on and try to beat because they have great players throughout the whole court.”
Key Match Ups
Centre v Centre
Jess Anstiss v Jamie-Lee Price
Anstiss made the Nissan Net Points Team of the Week after moving from Wing Defence to Centre last week and exerting her physical presence on the game. If she appears at Centre against the Giants, she is likely to come up against Jamie-Lee Price, who is another one of the competition’s most physical midcourters.
Goal Keeper v Goal Shooter
Courtney Bruce v Sophie Dwyer
The defensive pressure applied by Courtney Bruce with nine gains, four rebounds and an intercept saw her make the Nissan Net Points Team of the Round last week. She continues to lead the competition in intercepts with a total of 11 and will play a key role in containing Dwyer’s influence, especially from long range, where she has scored 12 super-shots this season at 60 percent.
Goal Shooter v Goal Keeper
Jhaniele Fowler v Sam Poolman
Fowler broke 100 Nissan Net Points for the second week in a row with a total of 109.5 from 54 goals and five rebounds against the Adelaide Thunderbirds last week. She continues to lead the competition in scoring with a total of 224 goals from four appearances. Giants Goal Keeper Sam Poolman has notched up 6 intercepts, 11 rebounds and 13 deflections so far this season and will be focussed on continuing her form against Fowler.
