The Situation
This Tuesday night fixture between West Coast Fever and Collingwood Magpies is scheduled to proceed under strict protocols without spectators, following a COVID lockdown in south-east Queensland.
The league has introduced strict new protocols as part of an agreement with the Queensland Government to allow matches to be played during the lockdown.
Fever and Magpies will both enter the match following wins over the Firebirds last week as part of the condensed finish to the season.
Fever’s victory saw them climb to second place on the ladder, while the Magpies success saw them step up to fifth spot and keep their finals hopes alive, just one win outside the top four.
This followed an upset win over NSW Swifts last Tuesday.
With the motivation to keep winning in their hunt for a top four finish, the Magpies will undoubtedly come out firing against Fever.
Fever will also be focussed on securing a win with a top two spot up for grabs, setting the scene for what promises to be a highly entertaining contest.
Key Match Ups
Courtney Bruce v Shimona Nelson
Fever captain Courtney Bruce will have an important role to play containing Magpies’ Goal Shooter Shimona Nelson.
With 577 goals at 94 per cent accuracy this season, including a mammoth 69 goals in the Magpies’ upset win over NSW Swifts last week, Nelson’s performance will be crucial for her side.
Bruce is well equipped and in sensational form this season with a competition-leading 21 defensive rebounds, 40 intercepts and 80 deflections.
Stacey Francis-Bayman v Kelsey Browne
Experienced defender Stacey Francis-Bayman has imposed her influence in recent weeks with dashing intercepts and deflections to help Fever take control at the defensive end of the court.
Shifting between Goal Defence and Wing Defence as required, the English international has accumulated 26 deflections and six intercepts this season.
She is expected to match up on Collingwood attacker Kelsey Browne, who has played an important role in setting up play for the Magpies with 233 goal assists, including 22 in their win last week.
