The Situation
West Coast Fever and the Queensland Firebirds will meet on Whadjuk Country for First Nations Round at RAC Arena to celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year’s round focuses on raising awareness, celebrating and understanding the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to netball and the nation.
Fever will enter the contest following a record-breaking win over the Giants last weekend, where they scored the highest ever team score of 86 in a 9-goal win.
Firebirds are looking to snap a four-game losing streak and keep their hopes of a top-four finish alive.
Moments to Watch
Both teams will be wearing unique dresses designed by First Nations artists.
West Coast Fever’s dress design was created by Noongar artists Peter Farmer and Kylie Graham and features Aboriginal women’s symbols to represent each member of the playing squad alongside a series of significant waterholes in Whadjuk Country.
The Firebirds dress features artwork by Rachael Sarra, a contemporary artist from Goreng Goreng Country and highlights that it is the strength in diversity of our communities and generations that fuels unity, maintaining balance and harmony on and off the court.
