Currently sitting at the top of the ladder, Fever’s fantastic start to the 2024 Suncorp Super Netball season continued over the weekend, taking down the Lightning by 25 goals in front of the Green Army at RAC Arena.
Fever and the Mavericks did meet in a pre-season hitout at the Team Girls Cup, which ended in a draw after a Mavs supershot in the final four seconds.
The Mavericks are coming off an 11-goal loss of the NSW Swifts in Sydney however, they did respond after half time winning both the third and fourth quarters.
Head-to-Head
Defensive trio of Sunday Aryang, Kadie Ann Dehaney and Fran Williams will be looking to stop the strong Mavericks supershot capabilities of Eleanor Cardwell and Gabrielle Sinclair. Sinclair finished last week’s game against the NSW Swifts with an impressive seven supershots from eight attempts.
Our round two player of the week Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard, alongside Shanice Beckford and Olivia Wilkinson will focus on their strong shooting accuracy against the Mavericks defensive pairing of Olivia Lewis and Kim Jenner, both who have spent time in the Green Dress.
In the midcourt, Alice Teague-Neeld has started the season in red hot form and managed a huge 40 feeds against the Lightning and she will be looking forward to the challenge of going head-to-head with Mavericks Captain Amy Parmenter.
From the Court
Head Coach Dan Ryan said he expects the Mavericks to come out charging in front of their home crowd and the team are looking forward to it.
“We have enjoyed our two wins, but it was straight back to work this week to continue evolving our game,” he said.
“We’re keen to get back to Melbourne and hopefully get another win on the board, but more importantly hope to keep playing some good netball.”
