International netball star Chelsea Pitman is returning to West Coast Fever as a member of the club’s extended squad for the 2022 Suncorp Super Netball season.
Pitman said she was excited to return to an SSN squad and looking forward to joining Fever at the Team Girls Cup pre-season competition.
“My love, passion and drive to play at the highest level is still there so when I was given this opportunity, I jumped at it,” she said.
“I’m focussed on doing what it takes to keep playing at SSN level. No matter who you are, you’re never too big to start again and keep reaching for your goals.
“I can’t wait to get started.”
The Commonwealth Games and World Championship gold medallist has represented both Australia and England as a dual citizen, and previously played for West Coast Fever in 2014.
She was co-captain of the Adelaide Thunderbirds in 2019 and 2020 and has also played professionally in England and New Zealand as a dynamic Wing Attack and Goal Attack.
The 33-year-old will add valuable experience to West Coast Fever’s extended squad in 2022, joining Ruth Aryang, 18, Sloan Burton, 20, and Zoe Cransberg, 22.
West Coast Fever coach Dan Ryan welcomed Pitman to the squad and said her career achievements highlighted her ability to adapt and perform at the elite level.
“To have an athlete of Chelsea’s calibre entering our training environment and being available to step up as required adds a lot of depth to our squad, which will be really important this season with the likelihood we’ll need to call on all 14 players at certain times,” Ryan said.
“Chelsea was involved with the England Roses program during last month’s Quad Series so is ready to get straight to work at West Coast Fever and we are thrilled to have her on board.”
West Coast Fever’s first home game at RAC Arena is on Sunday, March 27, with tickets available via Ticketek from 12pm Friday, February 18.
