Round One could not have started better for Fever as they secured a 13-goal win over the Firebird Futures at Nissan Arena 60-47.
Fever controlled the contest from the outset and put their foot down in the second quarter to lead by 10 goals at half time.
Zoe Cransberg provided good variety between ball speed and working to circle with strong connections to Sophie Eastaugh.
Eastaugh was a strong focus point in the goal circle taking some good ball under pressure and shooting four super shots across the match, finishing with 34 goals.
Defensively Ruth Aryang was on fire early confusing space and winning ball in partnership with vice-captain Caitlyn Brown.
Fever showed great ability to grind in defence consistently and work together as a unit to win ball for their team.
Cransberg and Aryang shared the MVP honours in a great sign for the depth of the SSN team.
Fever couldn’t keep their winning form going on Sunday as they went down to the Sunshine Coast Lightning Bolts 50-62.
Fresh off her key role in the SSN game the night before, Olivia Wilkinson led the way up front with 23 goals supported by Eastaugh (19) and Georgie Cleaver (eight).
Fever got off to a slow start off the back of some basic errors which saw them chasing the opposition all day.
Trailing by 12 goals at half time, Coach Guy Keane made some changes at half time helped reduce the lead with Jess Repacholi moving from Wing Defence to Wing Attack and providing some strong drives to in attack.
Defensively Fever was still able to build pressure to win ball back with Aryang and Scarlet Jauncey combining well in the goal circle. While Clara Wigley had immediate impact in Wing Defence following the move of Repacholi.
Fever had patches of connection with good ball movement through court but need to continue to build consistency across four quarters.
The Fever Reserves travel to Adelaide next weekend to take on the Thunderbirds Futures on Sunday at Netball SA Stadium.
