The Situation
Defending champions, New South Wales Swifts have had minimal changes to their side for the 2020 season and are looking for back to back premierships. The Swifts are now the hunted and with West Coast Fever’s promising performance in Round 1 we are looking forward to a fierce contest.
Key Match Ups
Centre v Centre
Verity Charles v Paige Hadley
Charles is reaping the rewards of a fierce preseason transferring her training into the performance arena with her taking out the centre position for the Nissan Net Points ‘Team of the Round’. Round 2 will see Charles in another tight battle as she comes up against Swifts’ Hadley, also an Australian Diamonds player, who is known for her creativity and drive on the wing. This match-up is set to be an intense battle as Swifts will be looking to pass Fever on the ladder.
Goal Defence v Goal Attack
Stacey Francis v Helen Housby
After a strong performance on the international stage, Francis returns to Fever with renewed drive and determination. This was evident in Round 1 with defensive duo Francis and Bruce causing a number of turnovers. Housby, a strong presence in the attacking circle, will likely take advantage of the new Suncorp Super Shot causing Francis to adapt her defensive style.
Goal Shooter v Goal Keeper
Jhaniele Fowler v Sarah Klau
Top shooter in the league, Fowler made a big impact in Round 1 with her 53 goals from close range, barely needing the assistance of netball’s innovative two-point super shot. NSW Swifts’ and Australian Diamonds’ keeper Klau will have her work cut out for her trying to minimise Fowler’s impact this match.
