The Situation
West Coast Fever remain undefeated after five rounds. They’re coming off a terrific win over Sunshine Coast Lightning on Tuesday night. Fever know they are in for a tough battle against second placed NSW Swifts as both teams look to secure their placings on the ladder. Swifts are coming off losses to Melbourne Vixens and Queensland Firebirds.
Key Match Ups
Centre v Centre
Verity Charles v Maddy Proud
Verity Charles is playing exceptional netball at the moment, both her attacking and defensive plays are being praised throughout the competition, but Charles continues to keep her head down and work hard against her opponents as well as directing the play through the mid-court. Charles is coming off the back of claiming the player of the match in Round 11. Maddy Proud leads her team in the feed count and is likely to be rotated with Paige Hadley.
Goal Defence v Goal Attack
Stacey Francis v Helen Housby
After a strong performance in Round 11, Stacey Francis and Courtney Bruce combined well to accumulate defensive pressure on Sunshine Coast Lightning. They will be looking to do the same against Swifts. It will require another full team defensive effort from the West Coast Fever if they are to impact the experienced and formidable Swifts attacking combination that boasts a line of internationals. Helen Housby is a recognised threat on the two-goal shot so that challenge for Stacey Francis will be to tag her to reduce her impact.
Goal Shooter v Goal Keeper
Jhaniele Fowler v Sarah Klau
She’s the competition’s best shooter and she had another impressive game against Sunshine Coast in Round 11. Despite receiving a lot of attention from the Sunshine Coast Defenders, Fowler managed to compose herself and find ways around the opposition's tactics, along with the help of goal attack Alice Teague-Neeld, to hit the scoreboard. NSW Swifts’ and Australian Diamonds’ keeper Klau continues to show she can threaten any attacking circle with quick footwork and contest on the ball. The challenge between Jhaniele and Sarah will be one to watch.
