This weekend we take on Giants Netball TWICE in our first hit out against a Suncorp Super Netball opponent. On Friday 3 February the Fever posse will head East North East to the Northam Recreation Centre to hold the first of the two official pre-season fixtures. The second of which will be at the HBF Stadium, Mt Claremont at 11am on Sunday 5 February.
With the games being made possible due to a grant from the Department of Sport and Recreation Country Sport Enrichment Scheme, the trip to Northam will also incorporate a free clinic run by the players from both teams and an educational forum for the local coaches with Coach Stace and Giants Head Coach, Julie Fitzgerald.
Having played for a club that covered a large region at home, I know how important it is to stage events that engage your community and make accessibility an option. To be able give loyal regional fans the opportunity to be a part of the Fever family is something that I know all the players are excited about.
Although we have had several weeks of match play now and a very encouraging hit out against the Diamonds before they departed for SANZEA, there seems to be much more anticipation and excitement around these final two pre-season games. With just two weeks to go until Round 1 this will be a fanatic indictor as to how we are tracking and an opportunity to make a public statement of intent as to what kind of mark we intend to make on this new competition.
The thing that I am enjoying the most about being at the West Coast Fever so far is the unfamiliarity. This may sound strange, but for me, experiencing the unfamiliar means that you have the opportunity to adapt and learn. It wouldn’t be out of turn to say that everyone at Fever has found themselves in an unfamiliar place this year. It would be the exact same as how the Fever fans are feeling too I would imagine. I think, however, that we are in a fantastic new place to make some special things happen. The West Coast Fever family entering into the Suncorp Super Netball Competition are all united in our purpose to pursue every unfamiliarity this season to drive Western Australia towards making some history. We hope that old and new fans will join us on that journey.
