After a stellar 2024 season, the Vixens knocked off Fever by a single goal in the preliminary final, a loss that is fuelling Dehaney’s desire to win on the weekend.
Dehaney was also part of the Vixens side who won the 2020 premiership but said this year feels more special, especially with her two Jamaican teammates by her side.
“I feel like I’m contributing more this year, and we haven’t actually won anything together [the Sunshine girls] so I think that would be special,” Dehaney said.
“I’m not letting myself get too excited yet, we have to get there first.”
When thinking about the coming days, Dehaney said it’s all about preparation.
“I just have to stick to the game plan,” she said.
“I trust my preparation for game day, and I make sure there is clarity going into the game about my job.
“I’m not a routine person; I just go with the flow and see how I’m feeling on game day.”
Alongside Dehaney, her defensive partners Sunday Aryang and Fran Williams have also had a fantastic season, garnering plenty of attention from the League.
“There is no secret to our success,” she said.
“Sunday, Fran and I just have a really good relationship off the court and it’s a combination that we have been building on every single day for two years.
“It doesn’t feel like a job, we’re friends working for each other and for a goal.”
Fever have been backed by their extremely passionate fan base all season, breaking two attendance records and intimidating any opponents who dare play at RAC Arena.
“I have been across three teams, and I think the Green Army are the most positive people,” Dehaney said.
“Their support is so encouraging; they genuinely are the eigth player and we’re very lucky to have the support system we have here in WA.”
Kadie-Ann and the West Coast Fever will take on the Melbourne Vixens this Saturday, 2 August at Rod Laver Arena at 5:30pm WST.
