After nearly signing with the Adelaide Thunderbirds in 2012, Fowler has had a prolific career which started in 2013 when she joined the Southern Steel in the ANZ Championship. In her first year, she won the league’s Most Valuable Player.
When the newly formed Suncorp Super Netball competition begun, Fowler chose West Coast Fever as her club and has thrived ever since.
The Birmingham Commonwealth Games Silver Medallist grew up in Montego Bay, on the west of Jamaica before moving eastward to St Thomas.
The Goal Shooter has thrived for Fever, winning SSN Player of the Year five times in as many years and topping the scoring charts each year.
Fowler holds an array of records in the league. She is the highest all-time scorer in the SSN and has the highest goal tally in a season with 979 in 2020.
She also has the most goals in one game with 70 against the Swifts in Round 12, 2020.
With many laurels to her name, Fever Coach Dan Ryan thinks the 198-centimetre shooter is the best in the world.
He said her desire to keep getting better was key to her character and performances.
“Jhaniele is the best in the world for a reason, it's the fact she simply wants to get better every single week,” she said.
“When you're so good at what you do, it's quite easy to be complacent.
“If you know Jhaniele, she always wants more, she's always working on the little things and the way I've seen her engage and enhance those around her this season has been awesome.”
Leading up to her milestone game, Fowler said the occasion was a special one.
“To have played 149 games so far is just such an amazing thing,” she said.
“To be playing it with Fever this weekend is just going to be the icing on the cake.”
Despite the achievement, Fowler insists a chance to win the premiership will be the largest motivating factor heading into this weekend’s game.
“Maybe the milestone will make us more hungry a little bit but what makes us hungry is the fact that we want to go one further,” she said.
“We want to get to the Grand Final and play together as a team and as a unit so making sure that we're building for the win is what makes us hungry.”
