West Coast Fever defender Stacey Francis has returned to Perth and joined her West Coast Fever team mates on the preseason training track, after an outstanding performance on the international stage.
Representing the Vitality England Roses, it was the first time Francis had played in a home series since December 2016, having made herself unavailable for selection for the Roses since 2017. The 2020 Vitality Nations Cup saw the Roses take on three of the top five ranked teams in the world in the World.
Moving between GD and GK throughout the competition, Francis was a force to be reckoned with, cementing her place in the starting seven for each of the four matches.
The Vitality England Roses secured a bronze medal after a nail-biting 65-63 victory over South Africa. Across the tournament Francis earned a Player of the Match award, also against South Africa In game two of the tournament in her home town of Birmingham.
"It was fantastic to have earnt and feel enthused again about being given the opportunity to return to the red dress and represent my country. I felt great pride each time I stepped out on court during the international window and incredibly fulfilled in the environment, which I think showed in my netball. I can’t wait for the challenge ahead of the 2020 season and to bring my confidence and leadership into the green dress,” said Francis.
Francis’ appearance in the Vitality Netball Nations Cup comes off the back of her re-entry into the Roses team in the SPAR Challenge International Netball Series in South Africa last November.
Francis again showcased her dominance on the court and was named defender of the series.
Now back on Australian soil, Francis joins the West Coast Fever team for training ahead of their first competitive match against Sunshine Coast Lightning on Friday 21 February.
