Fever found themselves down at three quarter time for the second game of the tournament and needed another strong finish.
They started strong feeding Jhaniele Fowler and she responded with five of the first six goals to get the lead back. Fever won the quarter 13-7 to secure their first points of Team Girls Cup.
The first half was a tight tussle as the teams traded goals. Fever always managed to edge in front towards the end of both quarters to lead at the first two breaks.
Wings Alice Teague-Neeld and Sunday Aryang were influential throughout the contest and in the first half combined for three intercepts and four deflections. While the combination of Sasha Glasgow and Nat Butler was impressive up front.
Both sides made the most of power time in the first quarter, scoring two supershots each to go into the first break even at 12-all.
Fever mixed up the line-up in the second half, injecting Jhaniele Fowler and Emma Cosh for Glasgow and Butler. While Courtney Bruce replaced Rudi Ellis in Goal Keeper and Jordan Cransberg swapped with the influential Teague-Neeld.
The teams traded goals for most of the third quarter until Lightning went on a run scoring seven of the last 10 goals of the quarter to lead by three at the final change.
Fever lifted their defence effort in the final quarter, creating four gains and making the most of their opportunities in attack.
They will now face Collingwood in the final pool match with the result critical to determining where the sides finish.
