Playing in SSN conditions at Waverley Netball Centre, the Mavericks took the first lead in front of their home crowd.
Alice Teague-Neeld found clear breaks during the centre pass to make herself known, alongside captain Jess Anstiss, who controlled the mid-court in centre.
Shanice Beckford’s quick feet were able to get her into place for some rapid goals, helping the side find their rhythm.

The second quarter truly belonged to Kadie-Ann Dehaney in defence, creating a battle between herself and Shimona Jok In the goal circle.
Dehaney was on fire with intercepts and deflections, keeping the ball on court during crucial moments.
Jordan Cransberg went down five minutes in and was subbed with twin sister and 11th player Zoe Cransberg in the centre bib.
Mwai Kumwenda (MJ) took to the court in the green dress for the first time in front of a crowd and was met with applause following her quick three goals.

Olivia Wilkinson kicked started the quarter in goals, alongside MJ’s long reach to allow for a crucial build in momentum.
Ruth Aryang’s defence in the third quarter was key, delivering intercepts to push the ball toward Fever goals.
Fever and the Mavericks were level going into the last quarter.

The final quarter was an intense battle between both sides, both gunning for the lead.
Fran Williams was destructive to the Mav’s plans, her versatility in both Goal Defence and Wing Defence keeping her a step above the opposition.
The pressure from the defensive end allowed Wilkinson and MJ to find those quick and important goals, and saw Fever take home their first win of their pre-season trip to Victoria.
West Coast Fever will now head to Ballarat to take on the Giants and Melbourne Vixens as part of the Ballarat Blitz!
