Head Coach Dan Ryan described the weekend as successful, with a high quality of match play and pressure between the two teams.
“I think every single player that took the court, and there was 11 of them for some portion of the weekend, all demonstrated great transfer from training to game day,” Ryan said.
“It’s great to connect with our Principal Partner Fortescue and the community in the regions who don’t get a lot of elite sport.
“For us to go and play in front of a packed crowd full of boys and girls enjoying the spectacle is a really critical part of our pre-season.”
The team who took the court in Port Hedland also consisted of Training Partners with Ruth Aryang and Zoe Cransberg putting on the green dress.
“Ruth has had a really tough last two years coming back from injury, she’s been attacking pre-season from the very start and is in great nick,” Ryan said.
“To see her not only play, but play as well as she did was really exciting. She took a spectacular intercept against the boys and was full of confidence of how she went about it.”
A special sight for spectators was when both sets of Fever sisters, the Aryang’s and Cransberg’s, were able to represent the Club together for the first time.
“The opportunity to get the Cransberg sisters out on court together was awesome, with two sets of sisters on court at one stage it’s great to showcase the next generation,” Ryan said.
Fever’s next stop on their pre-season campaign will be the Ballarat Blitz in Victoria from the 16-17 March. Fever will face the Vixens and Giants in a weekend of intense preparation for the 2024 Suncorp Super Netball season.
“For us it’s now about making the adjustment to play against the women’s teams and our rivals in SSN,” Ryan said.
“We’ve spent the last weeks really focusing on the challenges associated with the men and how we can counteract their skills, so we’ll make that transfer this week into locking in some different parts of our game.”
Both West Coast Fever matches will be live streamed via the Melbourne Vixens Facebook Page.
