The match got underway with Fever’s centre pass which was promptly converted by Jhaniele Fowler for her 500th goal of the season.
Courtney Bruce shone at Goal Keeper with three Intercepts early in the game, including one off the Firebirds very first centre pass. Sunday Aryang also achieved an intercept of her own to cap off an incredible defensive effort.
When it came to the Power 5, Sasha Glasgow was on target with four Super Shots to ensure Fever went into the first break 10 goals ahead.
Q2: WCF 50 | FIR 30
Fever managed to double their lead in the second quarter thanks to quality defence as Bruce kept up her work effort with two Deflections and a Rebound as a reward.
Fast moving play through the midcourt also featured with Jess Anstiss, Verity Simmons and Alice Teague-Neeld playing well in the centre third.
Fever’s change up to prioritise Super Shots in the Power 5 worked wonders with Glasgow showing off her distance shooting.
Q3: WCF 71 | FIR 48
With a dominant lead already in the bank, Fever took to the third quarter with more resolve, looking to maintain their lead.
Coach Dan Ryan took the opportunity to rotate his players, brining on Kim Jenner at Wing Defence, moving Anstiss to Centre and taking off Simmons to take some well-earned rest.
Firebirds put up a fight in the third term but two Super Shots by Glasgow meant Fever took a 23-goal margin into three-quarter time.
Q4: WCF 97 | FIR 63
Coming into the final quarter Fever didn’t let off the gas, winning the term by another 11-goals.
Simmons came back on to drive her team home with Fever’s flexibility in midcourt proving a major advantage for the team.
As was the story of the game, Bruce was exceptional in defence as she came up with four Gains including two Intercepts, a Rebound and a Deflection. The Goal Keeper ended up with a season high 12 Gains.
