West Coast Fever will kickstart their 2020 preparations when they host Giants Netball for two pre-season games and engage with the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community next March, thanks to the ongoing support of Elite Partner the Gold Industry Group.
This exciting trip marks the first time the Club will play a pre-season game in a remote regional area.
Fever will visit Western Australia’s Goldfields from 6-8 March ahead of the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball Season, with the combined support of the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, the State Government, and the Gold Industry Group.
West Coast Fever Managing Director, Simon Taylor, said the visit will be a great opportunity to engage with WA’s regional and remote communities.
“We’re excited to be able to take Fever to WA’s regional areas and reward our loyal supporter base,” said Mr Taylor.
“We thank the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, the State Government, and the Gold Industry Group for their support.”
WA’s Sport and Recreation Minister, Mick Murray, said the event would enable regional fans to witness top-level netball ahead of the Suncorp Super Netball Season.
“My congratulations and best wishes go to the West Coast Fever for hosting the upcoming pre-season event with Giants Netball in Kalgoorlie-Boulder in March,” said Minister Murray.
“Netball has a solid following in the Goldfields and the $30,000 funding from the Country Sport Enrichment Scheme will enable regional fans in WA to see some top-level netball in the lead-up to the national competition.”
City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mayor, John Bowler, said the Goldfields community is delighted to host West Coast Fever.
“Kalgoorlie-Boulder has a long and proud sporting history, and as a community we really punch above our weight not just with the facilities on offer here in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, but also with athletes from our community continuing to represent at the highest levels,” said Mr Bowler.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our young athletes, especially our female athletes, and our entire community, to be able to come down and watch these elite athletes play, so I’d like to thank the Gold Industry Group for facilitating this grass roots exposure.”
As a proud partner of Netball WA, West Coast Fever and Shooting Stars, the Gold Industry Group are committed to building a strong and long-standing connection between the sport and WA’s regional communities, supporting and advancing some of the State’s most remote areas.
Gold Industry Group Vice Chair, Kelly Carter, said the Gold Industry Group were excited to be able to build on the first year success of their landmark three-year partnership with Netball WA, by increasing the sport’s reach further into regional WA communities.
The announcement comes as West Coast Fever players prepare to tour Kalgoorlie-Boulder with the Gold Industry Group to celebrate the annual St Barbara’s Festival.
“We see the important role that sport, like mining, plays in building strong regional communities in WA, and we are delighted to be able to provide an opportunity for the Fever team members to join with the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community to celebrate the Saint Barbara’s Festival.
“The season opening events in March will give the Goldfields’ sporting community and their families a fantastic opportunity to see these elite athletes in action,” said Ms Carter.
The region’s netballers and Fever supporters will be able to attend free Community Clinics and an Open Training Session on Friday 6 March ahead of the matches, at the Goldfields Oasis Recreation Centre on Saturday 7 March and Sunday 8 March 2020.
The clinics will give participants the chance to train with their favourite Fever superstars, learning new skills, and getting a taste of what it takes to become an elite netballer.
