After a busy 2020 Suncorp Super Netball Season, which saw our players live in a Queensland hub for three months and make a Grand Final, the Fever squad have been enjoying their well-deserved off-season break. Here’s what they’ve been up to:
Courtney Bruce
With Bruce once again being named in the Origin Australian Diamonds squad, she jetted off to Noosa after a stunning 2020 Suncorp Super Netball Season for West Coast Fever, for the Diamonds Camp with fellow teammates Anstiss and Charles.
Once finally returning to WA soil and a two-week quarantine period, Fever Captain and Shooting Stars Ambassador Bruce headed north for her annual trip to the Kimberley. She visited Halls Creek, Fitzroy Crossing, Derby and Broome where she brought her passion for netball and education to the Shooting Stars sites.
Bruce took the opportunity to spend Christmas with her family and friends by the beach and even popped over to Rottnest Island with new teammate Sasha Glasgow.
Verity Charles
Selected in the Origin Australian Diamonds squad for the first time, Charles joined Bruce at the Diamonds Camp in Noosa post the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball Season.
Also, an Ambassador of Shooting Stars Charles visited Carnarvon, Meekatharra and Mullewa to spend time with the Shooting Stars participants and delivered some netball clinics.
Excited to be named in the Origin Australian Diamonds squad and determined to make the team, Charles has been training hard over the break at the Gold Netball Centre.
She has taken some down time though getting away on a girl's trip and also celebrating her four-year anniversary with Husband and former Australian Rugby Union player, Nathan Charles.
Jess Anstiss
After a strong 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season, Anstiss was also named in the Origin Australian Diamonds squad, seeing her jet up to Noosa for the Diamonds Camp straight after the season.
Taking the opportunity to travel our beautiful state, Anstiss has spent her time off road tripping around Esperance and Denmark.
Celebrating one hell of a year and love all at once, Anstiss spent her New Year's Eve at former West Coast Fever player, Colyer’s wedding along with fellow teammates, Teague-Neeld, Lewis and Cosh.
Sunday Aryang
After an incredible 2020 Suncorp Super Netball Season for this young gun defender, Aryang was offered a playing contract for the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball Season with West Coast Fever.
Aryang was an important part of Fever’s defensive line in 2020, with the goal defender quickly being touted as a player to watch in 2021.
Aryang was also selected in the 2021 Australia 21 and Under Squad set to play at the 2021 Netball World Youth Cup in Fiji later this year. Aryang was the only West Australian selected in the 22-athlete squad.
Stacey Francis
2020 was incredibly tough especially for our international players who were separated from their loved ones for most of the year. Francis headed back home to the UK after the season finished to get cracking on her wedding plans.
And it all paid off, with Francis and her partner saying “I do” last month in Bath. And we must say, she looked absolutely stunning!
How she manages to both plan and execute a wedding and still have time for netball commitments, we just don’t know. Francis was once again named in the Vitality Roses squad who were set to verse Jamaica in a four-match test series later this month, however due to the impacts of COVID-19 will see them play at a later date.
Francis also tried out her commentating skills as she joined Dan Wootton to commentate the Pulse Netball and Celtic Dragons game.
And of course, she celebrated a birthday too!
Jhaniele Fowler
Taking out the Suncorp Super Netball Most Valuable Player for a third consecutive year, Fowler absolutely dominated last season. After a long year away from family, especially her daughter, Fowler jetted back to Jamaica once the season concluded to spend some quality time with her loved ones.
Fowler was once again named Captain of the Jamaican Sunshine Girls, where they were set to take on the England Vitality Roses in the 2021 Vitality Netball Legends Series later this month. As a result of the extended travel restrictions the four-match test series has been postponed.
Sasha Glasgow
At the conclusion of the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season, former Thunderbird Glasgow was signed to West Coast Fever for the 2021 season.
Glasgow has spent her break farewelling family and friends in South Australia and making the big move to the West. Glasgow has settled into Perth and recently visited one of WA’s must-see locations, Rottnest Island with fellow teammate Bruce.
