From Friday 22 March to Sunday 24 March, all SSN teams will compete in a round robin style tournament, the first opportunity for supporters to see all the teams together in 2024, including newcomers Melbourne Mavericks.
Coming off the back of pre-season hit outs in Port Hedland, Melbourne and Ballarat, Fever are ready to face more of their SSN rivals in Sydney. All pre-season matches have given Fever the chance to develop connections between the new and existing players in a game-day environment, honing their skills in preparation for the season.
Fever Head Coach Dan Ryan said the Team Girls Cup being scheduled closer to the start of the season this year means it’s a great way to prepare.
“This weekend we will be refining our game and seeing where we are at in preparation for round one, and making sure that every player and every combination we want to turn to is good to go,” Ryan said.
“It’s about gathering as much information and knowledge about the lay of the land as we can, more importantly just making sure our game is tracking to where it needs to be.
“I think the competition this year will be really unpredictable. On any day anybody can beat anybody, and the results could go any which way across the Team Girls Cup.”
Fever will start the weekend on Friday Night against the NSW Swifts, in a replay of the 2023 Preliminary Final when the Swifts took away Fever’s shot at a premiership. Fever will be looking to show off the new additions to the squad, and the work they’ve put in over pre-season.
On Saturday, Fever faces the new kids on the block, the Melbourne Mavericks, who will no doubt want to start the season with a bang. Later that day, Fever will go up against the Queensland Firebirds, a long time coming for two teams who haven’t seen each other since May 2023, in Round 10.
