Moments that Mattered
The combination of Courtney Bruce and Verity Simmons was crucial as the Centre was able to provide a smooth link between the defensive and offensive circles after turnovers.
This was shown in the fourth quarter when Bruce managed to get a Gain and throw the ball while off balance, Simmons promptly found Jhaniele Fowler with a lob to set up a Goal.
Fever set a new attendance record for the second time in as many weeks 11,013 fans coming to the game, eclipsing last week’s record of 10,762.
Quarter by Quarter
Q1: WCF 19 | GIA 16
Fever were on point from the get-go as they fed long balls into Fowler with ease, while making life difficult for the Giants midcourt trying to move the ball forward.
Bruce and Sunday Aryang proved a handful for the Giants recording five Gains and four Deflections between them.
When Power Five came Fever put their foot down to build a seven-goal lead until two late Super Shots brought the margin back down to three at the first break.
Q2: WCF 37 | GIA 33
Fever came out firing in the second quarter scoring three of the first four goals. The sides then settled and fell into a rhythm with neither team able to move significantly ahead.
Simmons was instrumental in the midcourt as she collected two Gains and six Goal Assists for the quarter. Bruce and Aryang were both exceptional in the defensive circle but turnovers proved costly for Fever as they tried to extend their lead.
Giants managed a fightback in the middle of the term and brought the score difference to just one at the start of the Power Five. Two Sasha Glasgow Super Shots brought the lead to eight goals but Giants once again forced a turnover and capitalised with a pair of Super Shots.
Q3: WCF 58 | GIA 48
Fever started the third term with intensity and managed to balloon their lead to 12 goals before the Power Five as fast play and quality feeding helped the team move ahead.
The two teams traded Super Shots in the final five minutes but mostly opted for safer shots under the post. The strong quarter for Fever meant they had 10 goals to defend in the last term.
Q4: WCF 72 | GIA 61
With a 10-goal buffer, Fever did what they needed to and held off a spirited Giants side. After being in a deadlock for the first few minutes, the home side converted their turnovers to quell any fear of a comeback.
All seven players were on court for the full 60 minutes, showcasing their impressive work rate.
Bruce was exceptional from the first whistle till the final siren as she grabbed another couple of stunning Gains under the post.
