If Fever defeats the Lightning on Saturday, they will equal the Suncorp Super Netball record of 10 consecutive wins. They will share the record with the Adelaide Thunderbirds, who they defeated by five goals last week.
Wing Attack Alice Teague-Neeld will join an exclusive group of Fever athletes as she runs out in the green dress for her 100th game for the Club this weekend.
The Lightning will be doing everything in their power to take down Fever as they fight to keep their fourth spot on the ladder secure. The side fell to the Melbourne Vixens in Round 11 by three goals and subsequently dropped a place.
Last time they met, Fever ran away by two goals in the final moments at RAC Arena after a sensational defensive performance by Kadie-Ann Dehaney and two fast goals from Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard.
Head-to-Head
Milestone athlete Teague-Neeld had a sensational Round 11, notching 34 Feeds and two intercepts. Expect a show in the mid-court come Saturday, Teague-Neeld will face Mahalia Cassidy who last week stole four deflections.
Sunday Aryang will be locked into her job of limiting Steph Fretwell in the super shot arc after she shot nine two-point goals to her name last week. Aryang’s defensive presence is enough to rattle the most experienced of shooters, mixed with her ability to fight for a rebound or a deflection.
Old teammates will come face-to-face once again in the goal circle as Courtney Bruce looks to hold down the powers of Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard. Both athletes are well accustomed to one another, but Fowler-Nembhard’s unbreakable nature will be hard to crack.
All eyes will be on Lightning’s shooting end and whether or not Diamond Cara Koenen will re-join the squad after being ruled out last week with a foot injury.
From the Coach
Head Coach Dan Ryan said the Lightning have many weapons in their arsenal that Fever are prepared for.
“They have a number of Diamonds in their team that know how to step up and play in big games,” Ryan said.
“We need to look at all parts of their game and be prepared for anything that comes our way.”
