West Coast Fever hosted the Victorian Men’s State Team in an exhibition match at the Gold Netball Centre over the weekend.
The free event saw over 150 members of the Green Army witness the friendly affair which followed the standard Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) format.
Fever fell short in what was a scorching preseason head-to-head contest, with the final score reading 47-58.
The home side started strongly while Victoria struggled to find their feet on the new court. Fever pulled ahead scoring 11-4 and went into the first break with a 15-8 lead.
Intense competition in the second saw Victoria force some great turnovers. Although unfamiliar with the power five rule used in SSN games, they managed to adapt and scored the first super goal of the game, tying the half at 26 points each.
The game play was neck and neck through the third term with the defensive abilities of both sides on full display. The scoreline read 38 apiece at three-quarter time.
Despite Fever’s best efforts, the Victorian Men’s team surged home to an 11-point win at the final buzzer.
The match served as a warm-up to Fever’s upcoming SSN season which will commence on the 27th of March against Sunshine Coast Lightning at RAC Arena.
