Bruce debuted for Fever in 2013 and played 130 games including captaining the Club’s maiden premiership in 2022.
The Club and Bruce met recently where she expressed her desire for a fresh start to seek new challenges in a new environment, after having achieved all she ever dreamed of with West Coast Fever.
West Coast Fever General Manager Sue Gaudion said: “After sitting down with Courtney and her manager, our Club has a full understanding of her rationale to seek a change in environment.
“While we are disappointed that will not be in the West Coast Fever environment, when we have the knowledge of what Courtney wants and needs, why would we stand in her way to seek out the best for herself as she enters the twilight of her career.
“West Coast Fever would have dearly loved for Courtney to remain with us for the entirety of her career and that is what we were hoping for.
“No matter what happens from here, Courtney will always be a champion of our Club and our maiden premiership captain.
“We have watched and helped her grow and develop into a world class defender and leader and as a West Australian athlete we look forward to supporting her career, albeit from afar.”
Courtney Bruce said: “I am forever grateful for my time at Fever, I started at the Club as a young 16-year-old and have had 12 incredible seasons in the green. I always dreamed about playing for Fever and to have been a part of so much success at this Club brings me so much joy and pride.
“Highlights that I will cherish for a lifetime have to be the premiership in 2022, captaining this Club and seeing the city embrace Fever and West Coast Fever becoming a household name. Most importantly, the relationships and friendships I have formed with the so many of the Green Army, you are all some of the very best fans in the world and I will miss you all immensely.
“I want to thank everyone at West Coast Fever and the greater netball community in WA. I am a proud West Australian and am so grateful for all of the support over my 12 seasons. This Club has a special place in my heart, and it has been an honour wearing the green dress.
“I feel like this is the time for me to seek an opportunity elsewhere and see how I can challenge myself in a new environment. To see what else is out there and see what else I can achieve.
“I wish Dan, the girls and the greater West Coast Fever Netball Club and Netball WA all the success for the 2024 season and I’ll be watching from afar. Hopefully, I’ll be back in the future.”
Gaudion said: “We are thankful that Courtney has advised the Club now, as it allows us to continue our preparations for the contracting window to secure a strong list for season 2024.”
The SSN Contract Window will open once both the Team Participation and Collective Player Agreements are signed.
