The side will don their 2025 First Nations Dress for the first time this season. The dress proudly incorporates elements from the Club’s Indigenous artwork, Spirit of the Fever, created in 2024 by Contemporary Aboriginal Artist Jilalga Murray of Jilalga Designs.
Get ready to witness history in the making with Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard only 12 goals away from creating a League record of 9000 career goals.
As they gear up for their second away game in two weeks, the side are confident in their ability to continue their consecutive four-game winning streak.
In Round Six, Fever took down the reigning premiers the Adelaide Thunderbirds by six goals in a brilliant display across the court.
Last week, the Giants went down by 13 goals to the NSW Swifts and will no doubt be hungry for their second win of the season.
Last time they met
The two sides have only faced each other once so far this year, during their pre-season match up in Ballarat when Fever took home the win by six goals.
Fever came out on top in both of their hit-outs in 2024, by three goals in Round 12 at RAC Arena and by 19 in Round One in Sydney.
Head-to-head
International teammates will face each other in the goal circle as Sunshine Girls Jodi-Ann Ward goes head-to-head with Shanice Beckford. Beckford is known for her speed around the court and her ability to be in sync with Fowler-Nembhard, making Ward’s job that bit harder.
The Giants have been utilising their rotating circle, with veteran and co-captain Jo Harten swapping out with young guns Sophie Dwyer and Matisse Letherbarrow when needed.
Sunday Aryang, Kadie-Ann Dehaney and Fran Williams will therefore be able to capitalise on their own ability to rotate on and off and will be looking to use their defensive experience to their advantage.
From the captain
West Coast Fever Captain Jess Anstiss said wearing the First Nations Dress this weekend is special to the squad.
“It means more than us, more than just the game, being able to share stories and understand First Nations culture,” Anstiss said.
On this weekend’s game, Anstiss said although the Giants have had a tough run, the squad won’t be taking them lightly and will be focused on putting out a strong performance in all 60 mins.
“We’re looking to get wins across all four quarters, starting strong and finishing strong.”
You can Feel the Fever from home by watching the team take on the Giants on Saturday, 24 May 5pm WST on Kayo Sports, Foxtel and Binge.
