Fever take on rivals the Melbourne Vixens and need not only to win, but to do so by a bigger margin than the Melbourne Mavericks, if they are to secure third spot and a home final.
Finals Equation
Fever will know what they need to do after the completion of the Mavs v Firebirds match.
After dropping their past two matches, the Vixens week one finals assignment is confirmed. The Vixens will face Adelaide Thunderbirds in Adelaide in the major semi-final.
Fever edged the GIANTS by one goal in Round 13 and know just how important Sunday afternoon’s match will be.
When these sides last met, the Vixens won by six goals, despite a late super shot surge from Olivia Wilkinson and Sasha Glasgow that brought Fever back into the contest.
Head-to-head
One of the key battles will be in the Vixens shooting circle, where Kadie-Ann Dehaney and Sophie Garbin renew a familiar rivalry. After countless clashes, including finals and a grand final, both will be ready for another fierce contest.
When the teams last met, Vixens wing defence Kate Eddy made her presence felt across the court. Fever, however, were without Alice Teague-Neeld, who will be looking to use her speed and trademark feeding game to make an impact this time.
Jo Weston will no doubt be preparing for Sasha Glasgow in the super shot period, especially after Glasgow helped drag the game back into contention in their previous meeting.
From the Court
Head Coach Dan Ryan said the side took too long on Sunday to maximise their moments.
“We've really taken away the last quarter performance and our execution under some pressure to ensure that we get it right to win the game, I thought was really pleasing,” he said.
“You always expect the Melbourne Vixens line up with the calibre of players they have to shift and make adjustments and show up in those big games.”
