West Coast Fever claimed a convincing 40-28 win over the Adelaide Thunderbirds to move into top position in Pool B at the Team Girls Cup on Saturday morning following yesterday’s win over Giants.
Jhaniele Fowler (21 goals), Sasha Glasgow (13 goals and super goal), Alice Teague-Neeld (3 goals and a super goal), and Emma Cosh (1 goal) all spent time in the shooting circle as Dan Ryan explored a number of attacking combinations.
Glasgow started the game at Goal Shooter and was on target early, helping Fever take an early lead before the Thunderbirds levelled the scores at quarter time.
Zoe Cransberg (4 assists) entered the contest at Centre in the second quarter for her first game with West Coast Fever and both sides spent time in the lead before Fever edged one goal ahead at half time.
Fowler, Rudi Ellis and Chelsea Pitman (6 assists) took the court to start the second half and Fever extended their lead to 9 before a Thunderbirds super shot reduced the margin to 7 at the last break.
Cosh and Fowler combined in attack and Ellis and Courtney Bruce (5 gains, 4 deflections) shut down the Thunderbirds at the other end, helping Fever extend their lead to 12 half way through the fourth quarter.
Sloan Burton came on at Goal Attack late in the game for her fist court time at the Team Girls Cup and recorded an intercept as Fever ran out 12 point winners.
Verity Simmons finished the game with 7 assists from 13 feeds, Sunday Aryang had 4 deflections and a gain, and Stacey Francis-Bayman recorded a deflection and four pick-ups.
West Coast Fever play Collingwood at 3pm WA time today in their final Pool B match before finding out who their finals opponents will be tomorrow.
