Fever held a 10-goal lead at three-quarter-time and then they struck. Fever scored nine of the first 11 goals of the last quarter to snuff out the Lightning’s chances of a comeback.
The visitors lead by as much as 17 at stages in the last quarter before some Lightning supershots reduced the margin.
Sunday Aryang produced a defensive masterclass. The Origin Diamonds Defender finished the game with six Gains, four Rebounds, two Deflections and an Intercept and in the process making life hard for the Lightning attackers.
Aryang was supported by defensive partners Kadie-Ann Dehaney and Fran Williams as the Fever secured six Gains in their last quarter blitz.
It was the Fever who settled into the match first through two Dehaney gains to take a nine-goal lead into the first change.
Fever’s defence put the Lightning under pressure creating gains and rebounds which were capitalise at the attacking end by Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard and Shanice Beckford.
Beckford produced one of her best performances for Fever, finishing the game with 16 Gains, two Gains and an Intercept.
The second quarter started as a scrappy affair as both teams made errors. By halfway through the quarter Fever reset with a timeout leading by eight goals.
Fever held a 13-goal when Power Five kicked in and two supershots from the Lightning helped to reduce the margin to nine at the half.
The third starter with an Aryang intercept and goal, before four Lightning goals cut the margin to six before Fever settled to restore their half time margin by the beginning of Power Five.
The visitors extended their lead during Power Five after a Fowler-Nembhard supershot, while Aryang and Williams were huge in defence and 100th gamer Alice Teague-Neeld controlling the mid court.
Teague-Neeld was a consistent performer throughout as she became just the seventh player to represent Fever on 100 occasions. Her 40 Feeds and 26 Goal Assists were vital to Fever.
Fever will now return to RAC Arena for their final two games of the season at home, starting with the Giants next Sunday 6 July at 2pm.
