Fever has proven just how well they have gelled together in the pre-season. Their cohesion and understanding of one another throughout the game despite the mix of new and previous players is a testament to that.
Q1: Fever 15 Swifts 10
The game began with the Swifts and Fever trading goal for goal, showcasing the tense rivalry between the two teams.
Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard proved why she is a legend of Suncorp Super Netball with her 10 goals across the 10-minute quarter.
Twenty-year-old recruit Olivia Wilkinson came out fighting, securing two Super Shots and cementing herself within her first SSN season.
Q2: Fever 27 Swifts 21
The second quarter saw the girls take control of the ball, moving with urgency and a strong direction down the midcourt to feed into shooting duo Fowler-Nembhard and Wilkinson.
Kelsey Browne reads the play like a book, and Fever Captain Jess Anstiss and Alice Teague-Neeld pulled off a fantastic passing combination allowing Fowler-Nembhard another goal.
Fowler-Nembhard again scored 10 goals in the second quarter, including her first Super Shot.
Q3: Fever 39 Swifts 37
The Swifts came out on a mission in the third quarter, tightening the margin between the two teams with four Super Shots.
The Fever defence didn’t let this phase them, with Fran Williams and Kadie-Ann Dehaney ready in the goals to contest the ball every time it came their way.
Sunshine Girl Shanice Beckford used her speed to expertly feed the ball five times in her GA position.
Q4: Fever 52 Swifts 50
The final quarter was an absolute nail-biter as the Swifts fought hard to take the win away from Fever.
Teague-Neeld took control of the mid-court with two huge shoulder passes straight into the goal, not allowing the Swift’s defence a chance to contest.
Sunday Aryang’s presence throughout the entire game was impressive. Her quick reflexes in the last quarter were exceptional as she caught the Swift’s centre pass ball as it bounced off multiple players resulting in a critical Fever goal that solidified their win.
Fever now turn their attention to both Saturday games, as they face the Melbourne Mavericks and Queensland Firebirds.
