The pre-season series and supporting community activations have been made possible by the generous support of the Club’s Principal Partner, Fortescue, and the State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Culture’s Sport and Recreation Events Funding Program.
The matches will be played at Port Hedland’s Wanangkura Stadium on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 March and will be the first opportunity to see Fever’s new-look line-up in action. In addition to the two exhibition matches, West Coast Fever will engage with the local Port Hedland community by running netball clinics and conducting a dress blessing ceremony.
Fever will then travel to Melbourne to play the League’s newest team the Melbourne Mavericks in a trial match, before heading to regional Victoria for the Ballarat Blitz.
Hosted at Ballarat’s Selkirk Stadium, Fever will play the Melbourne Vixens and Giants to round out their preparation for the Team Girls Cup.
Coach Dan Ryan said the team was looking forward to showcasing their skills and talent in front of the Port Hedland community.
“The opportunity for the State’s best female and male netballers to travel to Port Hedland for two exhibition matches is a fantastic opportunity to take elite netball to regional WA as well as kick start our pre-season campaign,” Ryan said.
Ryan said the team’s trip to Victoria will be a form of camp with three games of netball and a workshop across five days.
“The chance to be involved in the Ballarat Blitz was too good to pass up. We get to play against two quality SSN teams and when you combine it with a closed-door match against the League’s newest team, the Mavericks, it provides the perfect lead into Team Girls Cup and the regular season.”
