Coming off the back of a punishing win against the NSW Swifts, Fever continues to sit at the top of the Suncorp Super Netball ladder.
The last time Fever faced the Firebirds was during the pre-season Team Girls Cup tournament, Fever fell short by one goal despite an impressive game.
Since then, Fever have had a perfect start to their 2024 SSN season. The Firebirds on the other hand has been less than ideal, with one win and three losses to start their season.
Head-to-Head
Kelsey Browne, who comes off the back of a huge game with 30 feeds and three deflections against the Swifts will take on Macy Gardner in center. Gardner is currently in good strides after recovering from a broken wrist last year, starting in center for every match so far.
Firebird’s Remi Kamo is currently leading the league in defensive rebounds and will do her best to contain the huge talent that is Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard. The Fever shooting icon is currently leading SSN in Nissan Net Points and goals, no surprise after her 96.8% shooting accuracy against the Swifts.
Wing Attack Lara Dunkley will face Fever captain Jess Anstiss, while Hulita Veve will do her best to block the feeding abilities of Alice Teague-Neeld who is sitting on 107 Goal Assists in just 4 games.
Fever’s defensive trio, including Round 2 and 4 MVP Sunday Aryang, Fran Williams and Kadie- Ann Dehaney will take on Tippah Dwan and Donnell Wallam in goals. Australian Diamonds teammates Aryang and Wallam will deliver an interesting face-off, Wallam’s super shot capabilities leave her in second place behind Fowler-Nembhard in goals and will no doubt be a challenge.
From the Court
West Coast Fever Vice-Captain Alice Teague-Neeld said it was great to get the win on the weekend in Sydney.
“The Swifts are a great team who we knew weren’t going to give up during the game, so that win is a really nice confidence boost going into Round 5,” she said.
“The Firebirds will no doubt be a challenge, but as a squad we’re ready for it.”
