West Coast Fever has signed former Swifts Player and Australian Men’s Netball coach Nerida Stewart as the Club’s new Assistant Coach.
Stewart was appointed Coach of the Men’s side earlier this year and was Head Coach of Netball, New South Wales Institute of Sport between 2017 and 2020. She has also a lot of experience coaching netball at state, national and international level in New South Wales and Australia.
Stewart will join the Club in December to begin preparations for the 2023 Season and will also have the Club’s support to continue as Coach of Australia’s Men’s team.
Coach Dan Ryan said he was excited to form a coaching partnership with Stewart at SSN level.
“I’ve known Nerida for a number of years now and we’ve both been big supporters of each other’s coaching journeys,” Ryan said.
“It was a priority for the Club to land the best fit for the dynamic of our group and we are really confident Nerida is the ideal fit for what the team needs right now and she’ll add great value to our overall environment.
“Nerida’s skillset, high performance expertise and character will complement the coaching team and she’ll also bring a fresh set of eyes and new ideas. This is going to be critically important in ensuring we continue to grow and evolve as a team next season.
“She is making some enormous personal sacrifices to join our team which I respect greatly and it says a lot about how much this opportunity means to her, so we cannot wait to welcome her to the Fever family and start the journey together.”
Stewart said she was appreciative for the support of the Club to allow her to continue her role as Australian Men’s Netball team while taking on the Fever Assistant Coach role.
“I am very excited to be working alongside Dan Ryan, learning from him and joining the Green Army and Fever family,” Stewart said.
“I was attracted to the role because the West Coast Fever is a very family orientated organisation and I’m a big family person myself.
“I’m a real relationships coach and work on getting to know the person before the player. I know I will be complementary to Dan and the program and from my experience, I know by building those relationships I can help find the magic that sometimes players do not realise they actually have inside them.
“I’m really looking forward to getting over to Perth and helping Dan and the players to drive our 2023 campaign.”
