The squad are looking to continue their three-game winning streak and currently sit at fourth on the ladder after their 17-goal win over the Melbourne Mavericks.
The match included a season high 60 goals by Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard, who is only 65 goals away from the 9,000 National League record which she will likely hit in the next two games. Thunderbird Romelda Aiken-George is also chasing the record sitting a slightly further back 108 goals away.
In Round Five, the Thunderbirds took down the Queensland Firebirds by nine goals after their shock loss to the Giants the week before.
Last time they met, Fever were downed by one-goal in the Team Girls Cup final. In 2024, Fever won by a single goal in Round Six in a thriller at RAC Arena but went on to lose by 18 in Round Nine in Adelaide.
Head-to-head
After a sensational start to her season, Kadie-Ann Dehany will be up against Aiken-George, who will no doubt be out firing for quick goals and high accuracy.
In the always entertaining Sunshine Girl play-off, Latanya Wilson will be on her defensive A-game for Fowler-Nembhard in the goal circle. The international teammates will both be looking to use their knowledge of one another to their advantage.
Georgie Horjus, known for her strength in attack, will be up against Fever captain Jess Anstiss in the mid-court. Anstiss had an energising defensive performance in Round Five, including two deflections.
From the Coach
Head Coach Dan Ryan said the back-to-back away games will be tough, but the squad are prepared.
“It’s a pretty tough block of the season for us, but we’re in a good spot to get on the road together again and we’re just excited for the next game,” he said.
“We see the Thunderbirds as an incredible challenge, they’re the defending reigning premiers for a reason, we know we will have to be at our very best to beat them.”
Speaking on the possibility of Jhaniele setting a new record, Ryan said there’s just nobody else who does it like her.
“She has to be one of the best goal-scorers of our competition, it’s going to be hard for anyone to surpass the records she has broken.”
Green Army, you can cheer on Fever as they take on the Thunderbirds on Saturday, 17 May at 5pm WST on Kayo Sports, Foxtel and Binge.
