Layton, who is currently in the UK with the England Roses, will commence her new role in February. She will also continue her duties with the England Roses alongside her Fever commitments in the lead up to next year’s Commonwealth Games.
Layton said she was absolutely thrilled to joining Fever for the 2026 season.
“Since 2023, I’ve immersed myself in the world of coaching as a technical coach in the SSN and had the incredible opportunity to work with the England Roses. This invaluable experience has fuelled my desire to take the next step in my coaching journey,” she said.
“I want to extend my gratitude to Sara, Dan and West Coast Fever for this amazing opportunity. It’s particularly exciting for me to reunite with Dan, our paths haven’t crossed since our time together in Adelaide when we celebrated that unforgettable premiership win in 2013.
“I’m eager to embrace the challenges ahead, contribute my insights, and learn from Dan and the Fever environment. I’m committed to becoming a more well-rounded coach and hope to enhance the already outstanding culture within the team.
“Although I’m currently away with the England Roses, I can’t wait to relocate to Western Australia, roll up my sleeves with the team and be a part of the Green Army!”
Fever General Manager Sara Francis-Bayman said the appointment of Layton would be a great asset for the Club in 2026.
“Sharni has already built a strong coaching resume not only as an assistant but also as a Head Coach. She has coached in her own right at Victorian Netball League level with the Southern Saints and combined with her work with the Melbourne Vixens and England Roses she will bring a lot of value and experience into the Fever environment.
“Her expertise in the defensive side of the game will complement our existing coaching structure and we are looking forward to welcoming her to Perth in February once she has completed her commitments with the England Roses.”
