The last time the Mavericks travelled to Perth, RAC Arena hosted a sell-out crowd for Round 12. Despite the huge backing of the Green Army, the Mavericks escaped with a three-goal win, a result Fever will be determined not to repeat.
Fever secured a home final and leapfrogged the Mavericks into third spot in Round 14, defeating rivals Melbourne Vixens by nine goals, beating the margin they needed to host this weekend’s clash.
The Mavericks also closed out the regular season with a win, edging the Queensland Firebirds by three goals at John Cain Arena.
Head-to-head
Mavericks' shooter Uneeq Palavi can be a real weapon during two-point time. Kadie-Ann Dehaney will need to adjust quickly if the Mavs switch from Shimona Nelson to Palavi and work to limit her impact.
Jessie Grenvold has enjoyed a breakout season at goal keeper, but when these sides last met, Romelda Aiken-George still found a way to score 41 goals and three super shots.
The midcourt could prove decisive, with Mavericks captain Jamie-Lee Price going head-to-head with the Cransberg twins and their ability to shift seamlessly between attacking and defensive roles.
From the Court
Head Coach Dan Ryan said last weekend’s win has the team well placed heading into finals and eager for the challenge ahead.
“The last time we played at RAC Arena, it was a record-breaking crowd. We want another opportunity to give them plenty to cheer about this weekend,” he said.
