West Coast Fever Goal Keeper Courtney Bruce will become the club’s longest serving captain when she enters her fourth year at the helm in 2021.
Bruce, 27, said it was an honour to lead the club she debuted for in 2013 and was looking forward to commencing the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball season with a Grand Final rematch against the Melbourne Vixens on Saturday, May 1.
“It’s an absolute honour. I’ve been at Fever for my whole career and I’m a proud West Australian so it means the world to me,” she said.
“Fever feels like a family to me and I love coming to the club, it feels like home. Being able to lead such an amazing bunch of girls here and run out in front of the Green Army at RAC Arena is really special.
“I am super stoked to play the Vixens in Round 1 and excited to get out there and play some netball.”
Bruce has played 82 games for the Fever since making her debut in 2013 and developed a formidable reputation as an elite defender.
She will be joined in the leadership group again this season by fellow Australian Diamond Verity Charles and three-time Suncorp Super Netball MVP Jhaniele Fowler.
West Coast Fever Coach Stacey Marinkovich congratulated all three players and paid tribute to Bruce for her leadership both on and off the court.
“This is a fantastic achievement for Courtney to have come into the Fever program as a rookie and crafted not only her game, but herself as a person and a leader. She has some really strong attributes that we embrace and leaves no stone unturned to achieve her goals.
“As a club, we are trying to instil leadership across the entire team and Courtney, Verity and Jhaniele not only drive this, but empower all of the players to contribute and have a strong voice.
“Their passion for our club is second to none.”
